“I never imagined that I would be a writer — I just wanted to engage in theological matters. I just wanted to make a difference.”

I was called to ministry when I was a junior in high school and I believed that the calling was to work in vocational ministry in a church, helping congregants grow closer to God. I quickly learned that there were not many places within the church for me to realize my calling. As a woman, I could only work in children’s and youth ministry or women’s ministry. International Missions were also a possibility if I could scrape together enough funding.
After several years working in Youth Ministry, it became clear that my time in vocational ministry was over. What I did not understand was that my calling to ministry had not ended — just my time in vocational ministry. I didn’t start out planning to be a writer or to engage in theological matters — I just wanted to make a difference.
